League Two sides Lincoln City and Carlisle clashed on Saturday with City playing hosts.
A rare brace from Alex Woodyard helped Lincoln prevail over the guests. Carlisle lost Tom Parkes who was sent off after a second warning.
Woodyard netted just once last season. He was different on match day as he sent a curling effort past the goalkeeper for the opening goal in the 31st minute. The midfielder’s effort was the sole magic of the first half.
After the break, Carlisle looked like more threatening but they failed to level proceedings. Woodyard again scored in the 62nd minute. The former Braintree player combined with Matt Rhead before slotting the second goal of the game for the Imps.
About four minutes later Parkes received his second booking to earn matching orders. Matt Green was awarded a penalty for the foul in the box but Rhead took it and converted it. It was 3-0 and game over.
However for Reggie Lambe, it was not as he pulled one back but it could only be a consolation as substitute Billy Knott scored the fourth for City. The Cumbrians sunk to the 11th spot on the log with the result. They have 6 points from four games so far so they rank higher than Lincoln that have garnered just five points. Exeter and Newportcontinue their fine start to the new campaign with ten and eight points from four games respectively.
